One of my very favorite past times in the whole world is reading. I love to shut my mind off for an hour or so, and focus all of my attention on a book.
One of my favorite books of all time is The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. If you haven't read it, you probably should. It is such a life changing book, especially if you are in a relationship! Every person gives and receives love differently. This book talks about the 5 different languages of love, and how we can communicate with others that have a different love language than yourself. Most people have more than 1 love language, but most of the time there is a primary language and a secondary language. When our "love tank" is empty, it's probably just poor communication between two love languages. It's our duty in a relationship to keep our partner's "love tank" full! The 5 Love Languages are defined as
Words of Affirmation:
Words will always speak louder than actions here. They want to hear you tell them they appreciate you in order for them to believe it.
Acts of Service:
Actions will always speak louder than words for these people. Something as simple as doing the dishes without being asked means the world to them.
Don't confuse this one as being selfish. For these people, it doesn't matter how big or small the gift is. It's the thought behind the gift that matters. This is what makes them feel most loved.
All these people want is your complete, undivided attention. No cell phones, no TV, just you.
This language shouldn't be mistaken as a sexual language. Sometimes it's as simple as holding their hand, or wrapping their arms around you. Nothing speaks more deeply to these people than physical touch.
If you're curious about learning more, I would highly recommend visiting The 5 Love Languages website and taking the Love Language Test. This will help you understand your love language better, and your significant other's. There's a lot of other really cool resources on the website too. I highly recommend this read! Gary Chapman is amazing!
I'd love to hear any life changing book recommendation you have in the comments! Thanks for stopping by and reading today!
